Judy Greetings Card
High quality printed card with a blank interior to write your own personal message.
"Gunboat" Judy was a ship's dog on HMS Gnat and Grasshopper for the British Royal Navy based in China during World War II. She was a valuable member of the crew from the beginning, alerting them to Japanese air raids. Her mettle was tested when the ship sank during reassignment. She was rescued from the wreck by her crew and saved their lives in return by finding food and fresh water. When they were captured by the Japanese, Judy helped defend her crew from wild animals. She met future owner, Leading Aircraftsman Frank Williams, who protected Judy from the guards and convinced the commandant to register Judy as an official prisoner of war after giving the commandant one of her puppies. Judy survived another shipwreck during transport to another camp, and was protected by the commandant.
After being released and smuggled to the UK, she became a minor celebrity and was awarded the PDSA Dickins medal. She raised funds for the PDSA and visited grieving families of lost servicemen before finally retiring to Tanzania with Frank Williams.
Her collar and medal are on display at the Imperial War Museum.
Perfect for dog lovers (especially pointer or gundog fans), history buffs.
